Meet Gloria + Junior

Meet Gloria and Junior, one of the newest families you are supporting!

When Gloria was a teenager, she got pregnant and needed support to keep her baby. A family that she had met before told her that she could stay with them and that they would support her and her daughter. But after she gave birth to her daughter, the family took her baby as their own, and they locked Gloria up in their home, threatening her life if she tried to take her back.

She finally escaped from their home, and she went to the police. After an investigation, the woman who kidnapped her and her daughter was taken into custody. Gloria’s daughter was taken to an orphanage because Gloria was locked away from when she gave birth and kept from her daughter, she was never able to legally register her daughter (in Honduras, babies aren’t given a birth certificate at the hospital where they are legally registered, but rather families have to go to the registration office to officially register their child within weeks of when they are born). Because Gloria's daughter wasn’t legally registered to her, she was placed in an orphanage while Gloria recovered and worked on gathering the legal documentation, DNA tests, and lawyer fees to have her daughter officially registered under her name.

For the past three years, Gloria has visited her daughter every week, even though it is over an hour away from where she lives. She moved back to the town that she was from and started from zero. She found a job working in a sugar cane field, met a great guy, fell in love, got married, and recently just had their first baby together. Her husband, Junior, has always been supportive of her getting her daughter back, helping with covering legal fees and transportation to go and visit her daughter. They purchased a piece of land and have little by little worked on creating a home for their family and a place to which Gloria’s daughter can return to.

By empowering this family with the construction of a permanent home, trainings, and emotional support, Gloria’s daughter will soon be reunited with them!

Stay tuned for the progress on their new home and the welcome home party to come!

We are grateful for your support and for how it directly impacts and reunifies families.
