Meet Suyapa (+ 12)!

Meet Suyapa! We were introduced to her because she requested the guardianship of her granddaughter, that has been living in an orphanage.

Suyapa’s granddaughter was taken from her daughter-in-law for endangerment because she had taken her daughter to beg on the streets, and while begging on a busy city street, she was hit by a car. Before Suyapa’s son passed away, he asked her to take care of his kids if anything happened to them. 

When we visited her home with the welfare office staff, we were surprised to find that Suyapa had already taken in one of her granddaughters that her daughter-in-law had left her with Suyapa a few months ago. We were also surprised to find out that three of Suyapa’s adult children live with her and all of their kids.

In total, they are twelve people living in a one-room space. 

With your support, we will support this soon-to-be family of thirteen with a home that will give their large family the space they need. We are also going to help them launch a business that will help sustain them and their ongoing costs, and we are going to walk with them each step through this process until Suyapa’s granddaughter is with her family again!
