2022 Is Half Way Over…
2022 is officially HALF WAY over, and we can barely believe it!
If you have been following along since last year, you may remember that we started this year with the goal to help FIFTY kids be reunited with their families and able to return home from the orphanages that they had been placed in.
And quite honestly, fifty felt like a big (and maybe, if we're being really honest, unreachable) number.
Mainly because a program focused on family reunification and reintegration of kids in orphanages to their biological families is new in Honduras. And because it's never existed before, we knew that throughout this year, we would still be working out a lot of logistical details as we figured out how to best support the government welfare office.
We knew that it would take time to get this right, as we aim not just to get kids back to their families but to make sure that kids are returning to a home that will keep them safe, protected, provided for, and loved beyond measure.
The truth is that the past six months have been FULL. We've been figuring a lot of things out (and still are very much in process). We have been finding out...
what type of support actually leads to real, long-term impact
where our time and resources are better used
how deep a river can be and still drive a small SUV through it
how to best advocate for families and teach them their value and potential
how not to become calloused in the face of constant brokenness
how to keep a sustainable pace of work and not burn ourselves out (this one is still very much in process)
how to create and sustain a healthy working relationship with government partnerships (in the midst of elections and change of parties)
And so so much more...
Outside of what we have been learning, we're excited to share some real-life results for the families that we are so grateful to support.

OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS...

SIXTY.
SIXTY KIDS are back HOME, and it's just JULY.
We are thrilled for each of these kids, their families, and what it means for them, their communities, and the generations to come that will grow up in loving, unified families. Kids that get to know that their parents, aunts/uncles, or grandparents wanted them so much that they fought for them rather than letting them grow up in an orphanage, questioning if they were ever wanted or really loved.
We are so happy for the empowered families who stand on sturdier ground now because of the support they've received, whether it was just a bed for their kid to return home to, a business start-up, a permanent home, therapy, or support in their legal process to getting their kids back, they are a stronger and more equipped to love and protect their kids.

We are hopeful that it is only July, which means there is so much more work to be done, more families to support, welcome home parties, and more lives changed.
