Hear The Story Of Six Kids Who Are Headed Home

Victoria and Lorenzo love their six children. They just haven't had the best opportunities and have lived in extreme poverty their whole lives.

Because they live in extreme poverty, an extended relative reported Victoria's six kids as not being well taken care of. When the welfare office arrived, they realized that some kids had not continued studying. (this is true for many families living in extreme poverty because, after two and a half years of virtual learning, many kids stopped studying because they didn't have smartphones or internet access to keep up with classes.)

They also found that two of their kids were never registered after they were born. (In Honduras, birth certificates are not given at the hospital but in another office, which takes time and money to finalize the registration of each child). When two of their kids were born, they didn't have the money to spend to complete the process or support someone to watch their kids so they could travel to finalize the process of getting them registered.

Because each child has the right to an education and a right to a national identity, the welfare office had to remove all six kids from the care of Victoria and Lorenzo because it's the child welfare office's job to ensure that kids' rights are being upheld.

They were heartbroken and immediately started trying to figure out what they needed to do to get their kids back home.

We met them during the psychological and home study evaluations with the child welfare office. We were, just like the welfare workers, impressed by them as a family and how they have fought for a better future for their kids despite many setbacks.

We are supporting Victoria and Lorenzo with the construction of a permanent home with space for all eight of them, assistance in health care, education scholarships, and the registration of the kids who are not registered.

We are grateful to support this already incredibly strong family with some of the material needs so that their six kids can return home!

We are excited to share that we broke ground on their home this past week and have begun the process of getting their kids registered!

Check out the beginning of the construction of their new home!
