Meet Maria + Hear Her Story!

After losing her home to a hurricane, Maria was staying in a temporary shelter with her sister and her three kids. One day, a truck arrived looking for day workers to help with the clean up of the aftermath of the storm.

Maria took the opportunity to go to work and her kids stayed with her sister.

While she was working, child protective services showed up to check on the kids and families that were in the shelter, and when they saw Maria’s three kids, they were assumed to be alone and abandoned because their aunt did not claim them and didn’t explain that their mom was just working for the day. Maria’s three kids were taken to an orphanage that day.

Since then, she has launched her own small business selling fruit and refreshments at a popular intersection near the city central park to best be able to provide for her kids. She has also purchased a piece of land and built a small room of scrap metal so that her kids can have a home.

We are supporting Maria with the construction of a permanent home, support for her small business, education costs for her kids, and therapy and trainings until her kids are able to return home!

Thank you for supporting families so that they can be together again!
