Xiomara’s Home Is Finished!

At the end of January, we introduced you to Xiomara, a grandma who took in her three young grandkids after her daughter suddenly passed away. Xiomara lost her home two years before to a hurricane and had worked to build a one-room house out of scrap material where her previous home once stood.

Despite only having a one-room home with one bed and a twin mattress on the floor for her family of seven people, Xiomara did not hesitate to take in her three grandkids, keeping them from going to an orphanage.

When the welfare office staff introduced us to Xiomara, after hearing about her fearless love for her family, we knew that we had to support them. Thanks to several donors who chose to give, this family of 10 is now living in their permanent home! (And they are all very excited about for the first time, having their own beds!)

Xiomara's kids and grandkids have all begun studying (the new school year begins in February each year), some of them for the first time ever and others for the first time since before the pandemic began! They are doing GREAT in school so far and are so motivated by the opportunity to continue to study!

We have also been funding Xiomara's medical needs for a surgery essential to her health and ability to care for her family.

We will support Xiomara with a small business start-up selling fresh produce to her community and making a stable income that will allow her to stay at home, taking care of her kids and grandkids!
